I love riding the train into the city.
I have 4 choices to get in, 6+ if I drive a bit. The driving part may seem weird to mention but to fellow rail aficionados, this will make sense. The easiest is The Rock because of its schedule and proximity but I love to travel over to Homewood and pick up the Metra Electric since it terminates at Randolf.
I like Randolf because it’s easy to get to the Art Institute and central to a photo-rich environment. I also like going to Homewood since it’s near where I grew up in Flossmoor. When I was young my mother and I would take our trips to the city on this line. We would go downtown to shop, visit my dentist in the Field Annex Building, and my mother would get her hair done… A different time. In those early days, the cars were single level, dark green, weird-smelling, with stiff rattan woven seats.
