I’m getting a sneaky feeling that I’m not getting to my room any time soon.

This has to be the coolest hotel I have ever been in. The Britania Hotel in downtown Manchester, England, was originally a cotton warehouse built in 1868. I think warehouses in 19th-century England were very differnt than the warehouses that come to my mind. This might be closer to a cotton exchange or office complex with part of the building being a warehouse. I believe that the staircases are original to the building, but I’m not certain. The building was heavily bombed during WW2. The building was converted to a hotel in 1979.

The Britania Hotel is considered a budget hotel. The staircase does not look butdget but based on how they crammed rooms into every corner and our experience trying to find our room, which was quite a challenge, I would agree with the budget designation. It was a nice hotel, and I did get a good night’s sleep before our early morning flight home.

There are dedications to both world wars in numerous places that I saw during our travels. Mostly, these monuments are for The Great War, that is World War 1 to us here in the States. Some of the monuments are quite elaborate. There is a huge mural in the Manchester train station that was very impressive.
