Angel’s Grin
This carving is from Nederluleå, a medieval church in Gammelstaden. The church was dedicated in 1492. And I read that there was a wooden church on the site before the current fieldstone building. That goes back a bit further than I’m used to in the midwest. Continue reading

Raging River
While we were in Lulea, visiting Elise’s brother David and his family, we took a few day trips to see the natural beauty of northern Sweden. One of those trips was to see Storforsen, one of Europe’s largest rapids, on the Pite River. This rapid is about 3 miles long and the volume of water… Continue reading

A Good Show
About two weeks ago I happened upon a nifty photography exhibit at the Art Institute in Chicago. It’s kind of unique because it is based around, Hugh Edwards, a former curator of 30 years for photography at AI. There is some really nice work from Ansel Adams and Edward Weston as well as Civil War… Continue reading

Quiet Moments
I love the quiet moments that appear when you least expect them. Particularly when chaos is unfolding around you. Years ago, I took a class with the great photographer, Jay Maisel, where he shared many of his insights. Being a proud New Yorker, many of his insights are too colorful to share. But one that… Continue reading

This was the second year the Music Boosters hosted the event and we had a great time at Gaelic Park. The music was really good, the kids had a… Continue reading

Rainy Day City
Elise and I were downtown for a meeting a couple of weeks ago and I, of course, had my camera. I love rainy days, so many reflections and surfaces take on a new look. Continue reading

On The Move!
The last two and half months have been crazy with the move and all. So many changes but all for a brave new future. One of the changes is a refocus on the blog. I’m hoping to put images and writing out through the blog on a regular basis, similar to what I have done through… Continue reading

I stand still or move slowly, feeling things like the impulse of shapes, the direction of lines, the quality of surfaces. I frame with my eye (sometimes with my hands) as the ground glass would frame. Nothing that one could reasonably call thinking is taking place at this stage. The condition is total absorption; the decision (a picture!) is spontaneous. – Aaron Siskind, 1955
