Until you stay the night at a blast from the past.
Staying the night at the main hotel in downtown Rock Island, even with the very nice updates, is a bit of a throwback. It reminded me of the hotels I would stay at when I was a kid, elevators with backlit pictures of the amenities and a notice board with the upcoming entertainment and specials at the restaurant. As well as the large gathering area on each of the floors with furniture, tv, and sink seem to be out of place given the design of modern hotels.
I don’t mean to come off as slamming the hotel… it was very nice and I will be staying there again, I have three more years of opportunities to choose this hotel. It’s just that, even with the very nice updates, it’s easy to see how our expectations of a space have changed over 40 years. The choice of materials, lighting, space use, and traffic flow are just different.
The kids and I had a great time in the second-story pool, which would vibrate like a drum if you hit your foot too hard on the bottom. The downtown area is definitely a place I would like to investigate more.
