Serendipity – What I miss from the days of film.
Sometimes, I miss the hidden advantages of film in these days of digital perfection. Digital has brought many advantages to photography. Today’s cameras can work faster, are more accurate with metering and focus, and can show me the image being recorded as I’m photographing. I can eliminate mistakes and avoid errors before I’ve pressed the… Continue reading

Surprises

Memory of UP Fun.
As the weather in Northern Illinois changes to something more wintry, I felt like reliving a bit of our trip to the UP of Michigan this summer. I can see why some people like summer cottages on lakes, this was an fantastic time. So peaceful and so quiet. It is almost too quiet for one… Continue reading

Syncronize your watches.
What happened to then? We passed then. When? Just now. We’re at now now. This image is from a visit Ryan and I had to Dayton this last summer to visit with my high school roommate. I photographed this image using my Canon R5 with a manual focus Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AIS lens shot at 1.2. I… Continue reading

First was a visit to Michael Jackson’s family home in Gary then on to more music and trying his hand at some expensive guitars at Chicago Music Exchange and then on to find… Continue reading

I stand still or move slowly, feeling things like the impulse of shapes, the direction of lines, the quality of surfaces. I frame with my eye (sometimes with my hands) as the ground glass would frame. Nothing that one could reasonably call thinking is taking place at this stage. The condition is total absorption; the decision (a picture!) is spontaneous. – Aaron Siskind, 1955
